WHO Says China To Hand Over Bird Flu Samples

世卫组织：中国将提供禽流感抽样

The World Health Organization says China has agreed to hand over bird flu virus samples that W.H.O. scientists have been requesting since last year. The W.H.O.'s representative in China, Henk Bekedam, said Friday that the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture has assured his office that it has shipped 20 bird flu virus samples from 2004 and 2005.

Meanwhile, a Chinese official is rejecting the results of a study on bird flu that says a new strain of the disease has emerged in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian.

世界卫生组织说，中国同意向世卫组织递交该组织去年起就一直要求的禽流感病毒样本。世卫组织驻中国代表贝汉星期五说，中国农业部已经向他的办公室保证，中国送出了2004年到2005年的20份禽流感病毒样本。

与此同时，一名中国官员反驳最近一份有关禽流感的研究报告。该报告说，中国福建省出现了一种新的禽流感病毒类型。
